Class of 1992 come back to visit

On Saturday 20 May, 21 members of the class of 1992 came back to St Swithun’s on a delightfully sunny day to reconnect and visit the school.

Starting with some refreshments in the school foyer, the group toured the school and saw many sites, both old and new. A visit was made to the swimming pool as back in 1992 it was outdoors, located where the prep school now is. With many horrifying memories of the outdoor pool, it was firmly agreed that the students today are very lucky to have a warm pool all year round. The group was also surprised to see the transformation of the Bramston Hall into the Bramston Library as it has now been split across two levels - something that many former students feel rather disoriented by when they visit!

The music school hasn't changed too much since the 90's and many stories were told about the rather memorable music teacher, Mr Strand. The tour also included the newest building on the site, the Jill Isaac Study Centre (JISC), which has been designed for sixth form students as a quiet place to study, particularly for those looking to go to Oxford or Cambridge. In the JISC they were able to have a look over the 1991-1992 school chronicles as well as some photos from their time at school. After the tour, the group went on into Winchester to meet up with their former headmistress, Lady Appleyard.

Are you interested in reconnecting with former school friends? Come to Old Girls' Day 2023! On Saturday 16 September come and enjoy a tour of the school and a free lunch spent catching up with friends and former teachers. Click here to find out more.
