The school held an annual cricket match where the girls played against their fathers. Betty’s father, who had never played cricket before and not wanting to let Betty down, invested in full cricket whites (including pads) so he could play on the fathers’ team. Betty was thrilled to be able to play cricket with her father and apparently he was a natural, perhaps that’s where Betty got her keen eye for the ball from.
Three of the fathers were members of the MCC but were no match for Betty’s team who won the match although the final score remains a mystery.
