Advent Afternoon Tea
The Headmistress welcoming Old Girls to afternoon tea
On Advent Sunday the Headmistress, Jane Gandee, welcomed Friends of St Swithun's to the school dining room for a festive afternoon tea before the formal school advent service in Winchester Cathedral.
Against the background recording of St Swithun's choir singing carols, and with the warm scent of mulled apple juice in the air, guests enjoyed seasonal tea and the opportunity to catch up and share their plans for Christmas.
Over 50 individuals signed up to enjoy the tea, and many of those also welcomed the opportunity to be transported to the cathedral and back afterwards, avoiding the need to join the scrabble for parking in Winchester.
It was my first chance to experience the delights of St Swithun's Advent Service, including the serene lighting and passing of the first candle of Advent from neighbour to neighbour which gradually illuminated the cathedral. Under the guidance of the school's new chaplain, Reverend Paul Wallington, and accompanied by joyful music from the school choir, it was a moving and beautiful experience.
We look forward to welcoming you to tea again next year.
