Our next Bramston Talk with award-winning author and singer, Dr Chibundu Onuzo and writer and literary events interviewer, Rebecca Fletcher promises to be an inspiring and entertaining evening.
Chibundu is an award winning novelist and was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. Her first two novels, The Spider King’s Daughter (2012) and Welcome to Lagos (Catapult 2016) are both set in Lagos, while her third, Sankofa (Virago 2021) explores the story of a mixed-race, middle aged British woman who goes in search of the West African father she never knew.
She was just 17 years old when she began writing The Spider King’s Daughter. Her debut novel won a Betty Trask Award, was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Commonwealth Book Prize, and longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Etisalat Prize for Literature. At the age of 19, she was the youngest female to be signed by publishers Faber and Faber.
Chibundu completed her PhD in History at King’s College in 2018 with her thesis “Our Men In Britain: The West African Students’ Union and the Politics of Representation, 1925-1970".
Rebecca has interviewed and worked with dozens of amazing authors and celebrities including Minnie Driver, Kate Mosse and Anton du Beke to name just a few.
